Carbonnade Of Beef. Unbelievable Tasty, Just Try It!


Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 2 hours

1 1/2 lb. Chuck steak
1 oz. butter
2 tablespoons salad oil
2 medium onions, chopped
1 level tablespoon flour
1/2 pint light ale
1/4 pint water
1 pinch dried thyme
Bay leaf
1 level teaspoon sugar
Salt and pepper

Cut beef into strips 1-inch wide, 2 inches long and about 1/4 inch thick. Melt butter in a pan with oil and brown meat quickly on all sides.
Remove meat from pan, add onions to fat and fry nail golden brown. Blend in flower and cook for 1 minute. Blend in lightale and water, then bring to boiling point and simmer until thickened.
Add meat, thyme, bay leaf, sugar and seasonings. Cover pan and simmer over a very low heat for 2 hours or until meat is tender.

Serves 4
